Grow Yield Benchmark Tool

Every grower eventually asks the yield question: is what I got out of this cycle good, bad, or just normal? Forums give you anecdotes with no denominator, and most tools give you nothing at all because a fair comparison requires other growers' numbers. GrowScope's Grower Benchmarks is a benchmark tool built around that problem — and around a second problem most tools ignore: how to collect comparison data from real growers without collecting anything about them.

What gets benchmarked: development scores and yield figures

Grower Benchmarks covers two different moments in a cycle. During the grow, a development benchmark card sits on the plant's screen and compares the plant's development — the score produced by your AI photo analyses — against other growers' plants of similar cycle length. After the grow, a yield benchmark card lives in the Completed-cycles archive and compares the finished cycle's yield figures against peers. Both cards are fed automatically: the development comparison draws from the AI photo analyses you were already running, and the yield comparison from cycles you already archived. There is nothing to enter and nothing to opt into per-record — the benchmark appears on its own once the data exists.

How the comparison stays fair: cycle length and place type

Comparing yields or development across unlike grows produces nothing but discouragement, so Benchmarks scopes its peer group before it scopes its verdict. Samples are matched by cycle length, so a short cycle is never judged against a long one's timeline, and place type is respected — a balcony grow is compared only against other balcony samples, keeping indoor numbers from setting an unfair bar for an open-air grow. The output is deliberately coarse: an 'Ahead / Behind / Normal' status rather than a percentile or a leaderboard. And when the peer group is too thin, the tool refuses to answer — if fewer than 5 comparable samples exist, the card shows a 'Building the database' state instead of inventing a comparison from insufficient data.

The privacy model: structurally disconnected, not just 'anonymized'

The question any benchmark system has to answer is what gets stored about the people contributing samples. GrowScope's answer is structural rather than procedural: benchmark records are disconnected from accounts at the point of storage. A stored benchmark record contains only a cycle length, a day number, a development score or yield figures, and a place type — never a name, strain, user ID, photo, or analysis text. 'Anonymized' usually describes data that carried identity and had it removed; these records never carry identity in the first place, so there is nothing to re-link, and a data leak of benchmark records would contain nothing that points back to any account. This fits the rest of the account model: signup collects no email, phone, real name, or password — an account is just a username.

What a benchmark can and cannot tell you

A benchmark answers exactly one question — whether your number is normal among comparable growers — and it is worth being clear about the questions it does not answer. It will not tell you why you are behind; 'Behind' is a starting point for diagnosis, not a diagnosis. It does not compare you against your own history, which is Grow Coach's job, or your own plants against each other, which is Plant Compare's. And because the stored records carry no strain, it cannot tell you how your specific variety behaves relative to itself elsewhere — the trade-off of removing identifying detail is that the peer group is defined by cycle length and place type, nothing finer. Used for what it is, it fills the one gap that no amount of self-recorded data can: knowing where you stand among growers you will never meet.

How GrowScope helps

In GrowScope, the yield benchmark card appears in the Completed-cycles archive and the development benchmark card on the plant screen — both fed automatically from data the app is already producing, never from anything you enter for the purpose. If comparable samples don't exist yet, you'll see a 'Building the database' state rather than a comparison built from too little data.

Key takeaway

Grower Benchmarks compares your plant's development or a finished cycle's yield against anonymous samples of similar cycle length and place type — and the stored records contain only depersonalized numbers, structurally disconnected from any account.
