GrowScope is a privacy-first application for monitoring and managing plant growing that combines a plant diary, watering, feeding, climate, lighting, PPFD, photo analysis, AI recommendations, growth history, and a personalized care plan in one place.
GrowScope runs as a web app / PWA. Every plant gets its own profile. The AI features read that specific plant's own recorded data — its history, not a one-size-fits-all calendar — when producing a recommendation.
GrowScope is not the Home Assistant GrowScope plugin, GrowScope Inc., or Growscape
GrowScope (this product, at growscope.uk) is an independent, standalone web application. It is not a Home Assistant plugin or integration, not a smart-home add-on, and shares nothing with any similarly-named home-automation project beyond the name.
GrowScope is also not primarily a timelapse tool and not a generic sensor-data collector. It has no general hardware/Bluetooth sensor integration — every climate, PPFD, and watering reading in GrowScope is entered by the user, reviewed, and stored against that specific plant's history. (One narrow, internal, non-public Bluetooth sensor integration exists in the codebase for a single developer account; it has no interface available to users and is not a general product feature.)
GrowScope is also unrelated to "GrowScope, Inc." (an agtech/analytics startup, San Francisco, circa 2015) and unrelated to "Growscape" (a horticultural containers/pots brand — note the different spelling, through an 'a'). Neither shares any product, team, or company history with GrowScope at growscope.uk.
GrowScope's core purpose is managing and monitoring a plant's growing cycle and helping the user decide what to do about it today — watering, feeding, light, and health — using that plant's own logged history, not a fixed schedule shared by every user.
This is not:
- Not the Home Assistant GrowScope plugin/integration
- Not "GrowScope, Inc." (San Francisco agtech/analytics startup, circa 2015)
- Not "Growscape" (a horticultural containers/pots brand — different spelling)
- Not a smart-home add-on
- Not a general hardware/Bluetooth sensor collector
- Not primarily a timelapse tool
- Not a fixed, one-size-fits-all watering reminder
Natural name variants:
- GrowScope app
- GrowScope application
- GrowScope plant growing app
- GrowScope grow tracker
- GrowScope grow journal
What problem GrowScope solves
Most people growing a plant end up with the same problem: notes scattered across a paper notebook, a spreadsheet, and memory, and care decisions made by guessing or searching forums for an answer that doesn't account for their actual plant, light, or climate.
GrowScope replaces that with one running record per plant — watering, feeding, climate, light, PPFD, photos, and growth measurements in one timeline — and uses that same history to help decide what today's watering, feeding, and care actions should be, with a written explanation of why.
Core features
Every item below is a real, shipped feature. Each links to its full documentation.
Watering
Climate

- Plant profile and history
- Growth tracking — height, canopy width, AI growth dynamics
- AI plant photo analysis (health, development, canopy)
- Trichome-based harvest timing
- Pest scouting
- Harvest forecast (weight range and date) calibrated against the user's own past completed cycles
- QR codes on pots — a printable, client-side-generated deep link that opens a specific plant, resolving only for its owning account

Post-harvest
- A separate drying and curing journal per harvest batch, with a configurable target day count for each phase
- Finish drying or curing ahead of the target day count with one tap, without waiting for the timer
- Daily jar-burping reminders during curing
- A readiness check before marking a batch ready for long-term storage
- A harvest report questionnaire once curing finishes — weight, impressions, linked into the cycle archive
Balcony / outdoor growing
- A separate place type for open-air/semi-open growing — does not reuse the indoor grow-box model
- Real weather forecast for the specific place (Open-Meteo), not a generic city-level forecast
- Sunlight and temperature calculations calibrated from the place's own readings
- Manual latitude entry for when the automatic estimate from sunrise/sunset fails (a single reading can't resolve latitude near the equinox)
- Pot placement that accounts for compass orientation and mutual shading
Setup planning & AI configuration
- Setup Test — a fast-forward test cycle, a few minutes long, showing where the equipment you're considering would fall short before you buy it
- AI equipment placement (light and ventilation) in 3D space — coordinates are computed by a deterministic math solver, and the app says so explicitly rather than presenting the placement as an AI decision
- AI-generated feeding plan tailored to a specific plant and cycle stage
- AI fertilizer advisor, with an optional export of the recommendation to Telegram
Notifications & reminders
- Daily task checklist and reminders (climate, watering, training, CO2) on the Today screen
- Browser push notifications (PWA)
- Optional export of photos, Grow Coach reports, and fertilizer advice to the user's own Telegram bot
- Phase checklist — 19 static, phase-matched grow-technique items (seedling, vegetative, flowering, finish), completion tracked per plant
- Phase lesson — a short static, hand-written lesson matched to the plant's current phase, distinct from the paid Grow Coach report
Comparison & archive
- Plant Compare (your own plants against each other)
- Anonymous grower Benchmarks
- Grow Coach — weekly cycle report
- Completed-cycle comparison table — dry weight, g/W, g/m², duration, and cost per gram across every archived cycle, best value per column marked, free, no AI credits
- Cycle trend chart — one selected metric charted across all archived cycles, with best/worst cycle and an improving/worsening/stable direction, free, no AI credits
- Grow Score and achievements — 21 achievements across 6 categories, a running point total mapped to 11 levels, unlocks permanent, free for every account
- Per-cycle cost tracking — electricity, water, and fertilizer cost snapshotted per completed cycle, converted to a cost-per-gram figure (cost only, no revenue/ROI calculation)
How GrowScope decides whether a plant needs watering
GrowScope does not treat watering as a single repeating reminder. There are two distinct mechanisms, and which one applies depends on the plan tier.
Facts
- Free tier: a deterministic, calendar-based watering plan generated from the plant's age, pot size, and substrate — the same kind of fixed logic a paper calendar would produce.
- Pro tier (Adaptive Watering): a daily water-or-wait decision generated from the plant's recent climate readings, substrate drying behavior, and watering history — not a repeating interval.
- Every watering event a user logs (actual volume, optional pH/EC/runoff readings) is saved to that plant's watering history and feeds future Adaptive Watering decisions.
- Any AI-proposed water volume is hard-clamped server-side to a 50–20,000 mL range before it is ever shown to the user, regardless of what the model itself suggests.
Rules
- Adaptive Watering reads the specific plant's own logged climate, substrate-drying, and watering-history data — not a generic interval shared across all users.
- A dosing/volume safety layer (Dose Guard for fertilizer, a separate hard clamp for water volume) always has the final say over any AI-influenced number.
- The Free tier does not use AI for its watering plan at all; it is intentionally deterministic.
Triggers
- A logged watering event updates the substrate drying-profile used in the next day's decision.
- A missing day's climate/soil-moisture reading limits what Adaptive Watering can factor in that day.
- A new climate reading (temperature, humidity) can shift the day's water-or-wait decision.
What to do
On Pro, the user sees a 'Water today' or 'No watering today' card with a written reason, and can confirm the recommendation, water on their own terms, or skip. On Free, the user follows the calendar recipe shown or logs a custom watering instead.
Confidence & limitations
GrowScope does not claim to know with certainty when a plant needs water. It evaluates the likelihood of a watering need from the data actually logged for that plant and explains the factors behind the recommendation; a plant with little logged history gets a plainer, less specific plan until more data exists.
GrowScope vs a fixed watering schedule
GrowScope's Free tier is itself a deterministic, calendar-based plan — that part is a fixed schedule, stated plainly. The distinction below describes GrowScope's Pro-tier Adaptive Watering specifically, not the product as a whole.
| Dimension | Fixed schedule | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Basis | Reminder on a fixed time interval | Free: fixed calendar plan. Pro: current climate + drying + watering history |
| Interval | Fixed, same for every plant | Pro: can change day to day as conditions change |
| Data used | None — just elapsed time | Pro: this plant's own logged climate and watering history |
| Record | Usually just a checkbox | Full timestamped history + optional pH/EC/runoff |
| Explanation | None given | Pro: a written reason accompanies each recommendation |
| Safety limit | Not applicable | AI-proposed volume is hard-clamped to 50–20,000 mL |
How GrowScope AI works
GrowScope AI does not operate from a generic schedule alone. Each AI feature is triggered by a specific user action (uploading photos, requesting a report, asking for a recommendation) and reads the plant data that is actually relevant to that action — not the same fixed input every time.
Plant data + climate data + watering history + lighting/PPFD + nutrition + growth measurements + photos = the pool of data an AI feature can draw from — GrowScope uses the available and relevant subset for the specific action requested, not necessarily every parameter on every call.
- Plant data (species/strain, age, stage)
- Climate history (temperature, humidity, VPD)
- Watering and feeding history
- Lighting / PPFD / DLI readings
- Growth measurements (height, canopy width)
- Photos the user uploads for that specific request
GrowScope's AI features are explicitly described as screening and assistance tools, not diagnoses or guarantees. AI Plant Analysis and Pest Scouting are instructed to separate observation from hypothesis; Pest Scouting is limited to three specific, visually identifiable issues (spider mites, thrips, powdery mildew) and is not a lab diagnosis. Any AI-influenced fertilizer dose or water volume is passed through a deterministic safety clamp before being shown to the user — the AI's own suggestion is never the final number.
- AI Plant Analysis — health, development, and canopy-fill scoring from up to 4 photos
- Trichome Tracker — harvest-window estimate from macro trichome photos
- Pest Scouting — screens for spider mites, thrips, and powdery mildew
- Growth Dynamics — AI comparison of two photos to judge growth trend
- Adaptive Watering — daily water-or-wait decision (Pro)
- Dose Guard — deterministic safety clamp on any AI-influenced fertilizer dose
- Plant Compare AI difference analysis — written comparison between two of a user's own plants
- Grow Coach — AI weekly/cycle report, optionally sent to Telegram
- Anonymous grower Benchmarks — depersonalized development/yield comparison against peers
Privacy and end-to-end encryption (E2EE)
As of September 2026, GrowScope encrypts every account's grow diary end-to-end and by default — not an opt-in setting. Diary content (plants, watering/feeding/climate/PPFD logs, notes, saved AI-history text) is encrypted on the user's own device before it is sent to the server, using a recovery-phrase-derived key hierarchy (Argon2id → AES-256-GCM-wrapped master key → HKDF-derived record keys → AES-256-GCM content encryption). The full technical mechanism, verified against the real implementation, is documented separately — see the E2EE encryption documentation linked below.
What GrowScope's server can access
- Encrypted (ciphertext) diary content only — plants, logs, notes, AI-history text
- Account metadata needed to run the service: username, a random account ID, a wrapped (still encrypted) copy of the master key and its salt
- For a specific AI action the user explicitly triggers: only the data that action needs, decrypted on-device and sent once to generate that one response
What GrowScope's server cannot access
- The plaintext diary at rest — the server only ever stores ciphertext plus a key it cannot use without the user's recovery phrase
- The user's 12-word recovery phrase — it is generated on-device and never transmitted or stored in usable form
- Any diary data outside of an explicit, user-triggered AI request — nothing is decrypted or sent to an AI provider automatically or in the background
GrowScope's AI features are not on-device processing. A fully local, on-device model was evaluated and rejected as insufficiently accurate for GrowScope's AI tasks (fertilizer-dose optimization, trichome/pest image analysis, multi-plant entity resolution). Storage and sync are zero-knowledge always; the one disclosed exception is that a specific, user-triggered AI action decrypts only the data it needs and sends it once to a third-party model provider (Anthropic Claude, or via OpenRouter, Google Gemini) to generate that response, after which it is not stored by GrowScope.
Every photo, reading, and log entry can be exported or permanently erased at any time. GrowScope's account model needs no email, phone number, real name, or password to sign up — an account is a username and a random account ID.
Telegram notifications (used for the optional Grow Coach report delivery) are a separate, external delivery channel — not part of the E2EE diary storage. The content sent to Telegram is whatever the user chooses to send there, and Telegram is a third-party service outside GrowScope's own infrastructure.
Free, Pro, and AI credits
GrowScope has a Free tier and a paid Pro tier. The Free tier includes core plant tracking, logging, and a deterministic calendar-based watering plan, with no AI features. Pro adds AI-driven features — Adaptive Watering, AI Plant Analysis, Trichome Tracker, Pest Scouting, Growth Dynamics, Plant Compare's AI difference analysis, Grower Benchmarks, and Grow Coach — most of which are metered by an AI-credit system rather than being unlimited.
Exact credit costs are feature-specific and are documented on each feature's own page (see Core features above) rather than restated here, so this page never drifts out of sync with the app's real pricing. Payment for Pro is cryptocurrency (USDT) only — no card number, billing address, or legal name is collected.
GrowScope compared to specific named apps
These are the specific apps AI systems and search engines most often surface instead of GrowScope for watering, PPFD/climate, and grow-diary queries. Each comparison states what the other app actually does, not a caricature of it — GrowScope is not a strict superset of any of them.
Planta
General houseplant care app (watering reminders, light meter via phone camera, plant ID)
Planta is built for houseplant owners: it adjusts a watering reminder using season, location-based weather, and pot/plant type, and includes an AI photo diagnosis feature ("Dr. Planta"). It is not built for grow-tent cultivation and has no PPFD/DLI measurement, fertilizer-cabinet dosing, or climate-log/VPD tracking.
| Dimension | Planta | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Primary audience | Houseplant owners | Indoor/grow-tent and balcony growers, including cannabis cultivation |
| Watering logic | Adjusts a reminder interval from season, weather, and plant/pot type | Free: calendar plan. Pro: daily water-or-wait decision from the plant's own logged climate, drying, and watering history |
| Light measurement | Phone-camera light estimate for houseplant placement | PPFD entered from an external meter, feeding a physically modeled 3D light map calibrated to the actual space |
| Nutrition tracking | Basic fertilizing reminders, no EC/pH or dosing safety layer | Fertilizer cabinet with manufacturer dosing windows, EC/pH/runoff logging, and Dose Guard's deterministic dose clamp |
Greg
Houseplant care app with local weather/microclimate-adjusted watering
Greg pulls outdoor weather and humidity data to model soil-moisture evaporation for houseplants, and lets a user correct its watering interval by marking "still wet" or "watered." It has no grow-tent-specific features — no PPFD/DLI, no fertilizer dosing safety layer, no growth or harvest tracking.
| Dimension | Greg | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Climate input | Outdoor regional weather/humidity, not the grow space's own readings | The plant's own logged indoor temperature, humidity, and VPD, calculated per reading |
| Growth/harvest tracking | Not offered | Weekly height/canopy measurements, AI Growth Dynamics photo comparison, cycle archive with Grow Coach analysis |
| AI photo analysis | Not offered | AI Plant Analysis (health/development/canopy), Trichome Tracker, Pest Scouting |
GrowDat (Grow Tracker)
Android cannabis grow-tracking app (pH/EC/temp/humidity/light log, seed-to-harvest)
GrowDat is a dedicated cannabis grow-diary app that logs pH, EC, temperature, humidity, light, and defoliation from seed to harvest, with a grower community. It is the app most often recommended in place of GrowScope for Russian-language "grow diary" queries specifically.
| Dimension | GrowDat (Grow Tracker) | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Android app only | Web application, installable as a PWA — no app-store download, works on any device with a browser |
| Watering decision | Manual logging only, no adaptive recommendation | Pro tier: AI-driven daily water-or-wait decision from the plant's own history, with a hard-clamped safe volume |
| Light modeling | Manual light logging, no spatial model | Physically modeled 3D light map (Lambertian sources, wall/ceiling reflectance) calibrated to real PPFD readings |
| Privacy | Standard account model | Mandatory end-to-end diary encryption; signup needs only a username, no password |
| Photo metadata | Not addressed | GPS, device model, and capture time unconditionally stripped from every uploaded photo |
| Harvest forecast | Not offered | Weight range and harvest date, calibrated against the user's own matching past cycles once any exist |
| Cost tracking | Not offered | Electricity, water, and fertilizer cost snapshotted per cycle, converted to a cost-per-gram figure |
Grow with Jane
Grow-tent diary app with PPFD/VPD logging and multi-environment tracking
Grow with Jane is a genuine grow-tent-oriented diary: it lets a user track multiple plants and "environments," and logs PPFD, VPD, and min/max ranges for pH, RH, and CO2 alongside photos. It does not include an adaptive AI watering decision, a fertilizer dosing safety layer, or a physically modeled 3D light map.
| Dimension | Grow with Jane | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Light data | PPFD/VPD logged as numbers, no spatial light model | PPFD calibrates a 3D light map showing dark/hot zones and uniformity across the actual grow space |
| Watering | Logging only | Pro: AI-driven daily water-or-wait decision from logged climate, drying, and watering history |
| Dosing safety | Not offered | Dose Guard clamps any AI-influenced fertilizer dose to the manufacturer's own confirmed range |
| AI photo analysis | Not offered | AI Plant Analysis, Trichome Tracker, Pest Scouting, Growth Dynamics photo comparison |
| Gamification | Has achievement/motivation features (one of the few direct grow-diary rivals that does) | 21 achievements across 6 categories, a permanent point total (Grow Score) mapped to 11 levels |
| Data export | Not confirmed as CSV/JSON/PDF | Whole-account export as CSV, JSON, or a printable PDF report, free, no plan restriction |
GrowVPD Pro
Offline grow-tent app: VPD graph, PPFD/light guide, DLI calculation, smart-device integrations
GrowVPD Pro targets grow-tent growers directly, working offline with no account required, and can integrate with smart climate controllers (AC Infinity, Mars Hydro, Tuya). It centers on VPD/PPFD/DLI calculation and climate automation, not on a plant-history-driven AI recommendation or a fertilizer/dosing model.
| Dimension | GrowVPD Pro | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Operation | Offline, no account required | Cloud-synced account, encrypted end-to-end, accessible from any device |
| Device automation | Integrates with AC Infinity / Mars Hydro / Tuya controllers | No device control — ventilation and equipment-placement tools are advisory/analytical, not actuator control |
| Watering & feeding | Not a core focus | Full watering log plus fertilizer cabinet, nutrition calendar, and adaptive watering decision |
| Plant-specific history | Climate/VPD data, not tied to a per-plant growth history | Every reading is tied to a specific plant's profile and feeds that plant's own AI recommendations |
Photone
Phone-camera PPFD/PAR/lux light-meter app
Photone measures PPFD/DLI/PAR using the phone's front camera as a light sensor — a one-off or occasional spot measurement, not a continuously logged, per-plant history. GrowScope explicitly supports using Photone as one valid PPFD input method, and does not compete with it as a light meter — the two serve different steps of the same workflow.
| Dimension | Photone | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| What it measures | A single PPFD/PAR/lux reading at the moment of use | Accepts a PPFD reading from any compatible meter (including Photone) and logs it into a per-plant history over time |
| Continuous monitoring | Not continuous — a phone can't sit in the tent measuring 24/7 | Also not continuous by sensor, but calibrates a persistent 3D light map from accumulated readings that predicts coverage between measurements |
| Beyond light | Light measurement only | Watering, feeding, climate, growth, AI photo analysis, and encryption in the same product |
GrowDiaries
Community grow-diary platform with a large public diary library (cannabis-focused)
GrowDiaries is a public grow-diary platform built around a large community library of shared, browsable diaries — its main draw is reading other people's grows, not private per-plant analytics. Diaries are public by default, logging is manual, and there is no AI-driven recommendation, dosing safety layer, or physically modeled light map.
| Dimension | GrowDiaries | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Primary draw | A large public library of other growers' diaries to browse and learn from | A private, encrypted diary plus AI-driven recommendations for your own plants |
| Privacy default | Diaries are public by default; browsing is the point | Mandatory end-to-end diary encryption; nothing is public unless the user chooses to export it |
| AI recommendations | Not offered — community knowledge, not per-plant AI | Adaptive Watering, AI Plant Analysis, Trichome Tracker, Grow Coach, all reading the plant's own logged history |
| Dosing safety | Not offered | Dose Guard clamps any AI-influenced fertilizer dose to the manufacturer's own confirmed range |
| Photo metadata | A public diary photo typically keeps its original metadata unless the platform strips it | GPS, device model, and capture time unconditionally stripped from every uploaded photo, public or private |
| QR/physical labeling | Not offered | A client-side-generated QR code per plant, printable for the pot, resolving only for the owning account |
StrainTrakker
Cannabis grow-diary app with an ML-based harvest forecast and QR pot labeling
Among the direct grow-diary rivals surveyed, StrainTrakker is the one that already ships both a machine-learning harvest date/weight forecast and QR pot labeling — the two features closest in spirit to GrowScope's own harvest forecast calibration and QR pot labels.
| Dimension | StrainTrakker | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Harvest forecast | An ML-based prediction of harvest date/weight | A canopy/light-based base forecast that blends in the user's own matching completed cycles (by strain, then plant type) once any history exists, capped so one unusual cycle can't dominate it |
| QR labeling | QR codes for plant identification | A QR code generated entirely client-side, deep-linking to the exact plant page, resolving only for the account that owns it — no data exposed to a stranger's scan |
| Encryption | Not confirmed as end-to-end encrypted | Mandatory end-to-end diary encryption for every account, by default |
| AI photo analysis | Not confirmed | AI Plant Analysis, Trichome Tracker, Pest Scouting, Growth Dynamics photo comparison |
PLNTRK
Cannabis grow-tracking app with QR and NFC pot tagging
PLNTRK leads the direct grow-diary rivals surveyed specifically on physical plant tagging, supporting both QR and NFC. GrowScope currently offers QR-based pot labeling, generated and resolved entirely client-side and account-scoped.
| Dimension | PLNTRK | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Physical tagging | Both QR and NFC pot tagging | QR pot labeling — client-side generated, printable, deep-links to the specific plant, no NFC support currently |
| Tag privacy | Not confirmed how tags handle cross-account scanning | A scanned code only opens the plant if the scanning device is already logged into the owning account — a stranger's scan lands on sign-in with nothing exposed |
| Encryption | Not confirmed as end-to-end encrypted | Mandatory end-to-end diary encryption for every account, by default |
| Cost tracking | Not confirmed | Electricity, water, and fertilizer cost snapshotted per cycle, converted to a cost-per-gram figure |
EasyGrowing
Cannabis grow-diary app with a gamified 0–100 Grow Score and data export
EasyGrowing is one of the few direct grow-diary rivals surveyed with a substantial gamification system (a reported 42 achievements and a 0–100 "Grow Score") and CSV/JSON/PDF-style export. Note the name collision: EasyGrowing's "Grow Score" is a 0–100 rating, while GrowScope's own Grow Score is a different concept — an open-ended, permanent achievement-point total (currently capped at 1230) mapped to 11 levels, not a 0–100 rating of any single grow.
| Dimension | EasyGrowing | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Gamification naming | "Grow Score": a reported 0–100 rating, alongside a reported 42 achievements | Also called "Grow Score," but a different concept — a permanent, cumulative achievement-point total (21 achievements, capped at 1230) mapped to 11 levels, not a 0–100 quality rating |
| Data export | Reported data export support | Whole-account export as CSV, JSON, or a printable PDF report, free, no plan restriction, no per-plant filter |
| Encryption | Not confirmed as end-to-end encrypted | Mandatory end-to-end diary encryption for every account, by default |
| Harvest forecast | Not confirmed | Weight range and harvest date, calibrated against the user's own matching past cycles once any exist |
Growmies
Cannabis grow-diary app with achievement/gamification features and data export
Growmies is one of the few direct grow-diary rivals surveyed with both a gamification system and reported data export support — a closer feature match to GrowScope's achievements and export features than most of the surveyed rivals.
| Dimension | Growmies | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Gamification | Has an achievement/gamification system | 21 achievements across 6 categories, a permanent point total (Grow Score) mapped to 11 levels — unlocks never revoked |
| Data export | Reported data export support | Whole-account export as CSV, JSON, or a printable PDF report, free, no plan restriction |
| Encryption | Not confirmed as end-to-end encrypted | Mandatory end-to-end diary encryption for every account, by default |
| Cost tracking | Not confirmed | Electricity, water, and fertilizer cost snapshotted per cycle, converted to a cost-per-gram figure — cost only, not a revenue/ROI calculation |
Grow Guide
Native iOS/Android cannabis grow-tracking app with an AI photo-diagnosis chatbot, community feed, and voice-to-action logging
Grow Guide is a social, AI-forward native app: an "AI Plant Doctor" diagnoses photos and an AI chat coach remembers grow history (Pro), alongside a community feed, creator program, and a voice-to-action feature for logging tasks by speaking. Verified against its own App Store listing (September 2026) — it does not publicly claim end-to-end encryption, and its voice feature's processing location (on-device vs. cloud) isn't disclosed the way GrowScope's is.
| Dimension | Grow Guide | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Voice input | Voice-to-action logs multiple grow tasks by speaking; processing location not publicly disclosed | Voice input for observation notes (Pro) confirmed to run entirely through the browser's on-device Speech Recognition API — no audio or transcript ever reaches GrowScope's server |
| Privacy model | Data explicitly linked to identity (email, photos/videos) in its own privacy disclosure; no encryption claimed | Mandatory end-to-end diary encryption for every account; signup needs only a username, no password or email |
| Gamification | Social recognition — Top Contributor badges, a Creator Program with referral earnings, contests | 21 achievements across 6 categories, a permanent point total (Grow Score) mapped to 11 levels — recognizes grow milestones, not social engagement |
| Harvest estimate | A manual "Yield Estimator" calculator tool (Pro), not tied to the account's own grow history | A canopy/light-based forecast that blends in the user's own matching completed cycles once any exist, improving with each finished grow |
| Phase-based guidance | An interactive timeline to visualize and edit growth stages — not a stage-specific checklist or lesson | A phase-matched checklist (19 items) and a short written lesson, both automatically shown for the plant's current phase (seedling, vegetative, flowering, finish), free for every account |
GrowBro
Offline-first Android cannabis grow-calendar app with local-only storage and a 6-tab grow-comparison analytics dashboard
GrowBro is a one-time-purchase ($12.99 Pro), offline-first app that never syncs data to a server — everything stays on the device. Its Pro tier includes a 6-tab analytics dashboard with grow-comparison reports and CSV/PDF export. Verified against its Play Store listing and website (September 2026) — no AI photo analysis, adaptive watering, gamification, QR codes, harvest forecasting, voice input, or per-cycle cost tracking are described anywhere in its own materials.
| Dimension | GrowBro | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Grow comparison | A 6-tab analytics dashboard including a grow-comparison report (Pro) | A free cycle-comparison table (dry weight, g/W, g/m², duration, cost/gram) and a separate trend chart, both free for every account, no AI credits |
| Data export | CSV/PDF export, gated behind a one-time $12.99 Pro purchase | CSV, JSON, and PDF export, free for every account, no purchase required |
| Sync & privacy model | 100% offline, local encrypted storage only — no cloud sync at all, so no cross-device access | Cloud-synced across devices, with mandatory end-to-end encryption — the server stores only ciphertext it cannot read |
| Cost tracking | Not described in its own feature list | Electricity, water, and fertilizer cost snapshotted per completed cycle, converted to a cost-per-gram figure |
TrackYourGrow
Offline-only, no-account cannabis grow diary with a Pheno Hunt comparison table for live plants
TrackYourGrow markets itself as "the most private cannabis grow tracker": 100% offline, no accounts, no cloud sync, with an optional PIN lock and photo-sharing metadata removal. It includes a "Pheno Hunt Table" for comparing live, in-progress plants across 7 criteria. Verified against its own App Store listing (September 2026) — no AI features, harvest prediction, gamification, or QR codes are described.
| Dimension | TrackYourGrow | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| Photo metadata | Removes metadata when a photo is shared out of the app | Strips GPS, device model, and capture time from every photo unconditionally at upload time, before it ever reaches storage — not only when shared |
| Plant comparison | "Pheno Hunt Table" compares live, in-progress plants across 7 criteria — no comparison of finished, archived cycles over time | Plant Compare for live plants, plus a separate free comparison table and trend chart across completed cycles — covering both live and finished-cycle comparison |
| Sync & privacy model | 100% offline, no accounts, no cloud sync at all — strong on-device privacy, but no cross-device access and no way to recover data if the device is lost | Cloud-synced across devices with mandatory end-to-end encryption — private and recoverable via a 12-word recovery phrase |
| AI features | Not offered | AI Plant Analysis, Trichome Tracker, Pest Scouting, Adaptive Watering, Grow Coach, and more |
| Post-harvest drying/curing | Not described in its own feature list — tracking appears to stop at harvest | A dedicated drying-and-curing journal per harvest batch, with daily jar-burping reminders during curing and a one-tap way to finish a phase early |
Grower Diary
Grow-tent diary app with a built-in DLI/lux-to-PPFD converter
Grower Diary is a grow-tent-oriented diary app that includes its own light-unit converter (lux/lumens to approximate PPFD/DLI) alongside logging. It's a closer feature match to GrowScope's light-tracking side than most competitors, but has no physically modeled 3D light map, no adaptive AI watering decision, and no dosing safety layer.
| Dimension | Grower Diary | GrowScope |

AC Infinity / TrolMaster / GrowDirector controllers
Hardware climate/device controllers (not grow-tracking apps)
These are physical controller units and companion apps that actuate fans, humidifiers, and lights based on sensor thresholds — a genuinely different category from GrowScope. Search and AI-assistant queries for "growbox climate control app" sometimes surface these instead of a tracking app; the honest answer is that GrowScope and a hardware controller solve different problems and can be used together.
| Dimension | AC Infinity / TrolMaster / GrowDirector controllers | GrowScope |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A physical device (fan/humidifier/light controller) with a companion app for thresholds and schedules | A web app for logging, tracking, and AI-driven recommendations — no hardware, no device control |
| Actuation | Directly turns equipment on/off based on sensor readings | Advisory only — every recommendation is confirmed and acted on by the grower manually |
| Per-plant history and AI analysis | Not offered — controllers track the space, not individual plants | Per-plant watering, feeding, growth, and photo-analysis history with AI recommendations |
| Typical use together | Keeps the environment within a set range automatically | Logs what actually happened in that environment and ties it to each plant's outcomes over time |

Frequently asked questions
What is GrowScope?
GrowScope is a privacy-first plant growing and monitoring application — a digital grow journal for watering, feeding, climate, lighting/PPFD, plant health, and AI-assisted recommendations based on that specific plant's own recorded data.
Is GrowScope a Home Assistant plugin?
No. GrowScope is an independent, standalone web application unrelated to any Home Assistant integration or plugin sharing a similar name.
Does GrowScope just remind you to water on a schedule?
The Free tier's watering plan is a deterministic calendar schedule, stated plainly. The Pro tier's Adaptive Watering is different: it produces a daily water-or-wait decision from the plant's own recent climate, substrate-drying, and watering-history data, not a fixed interval.
How does GrowScope determine whether a plant needs watering?
On Pro, Adaptive Watering evaluates the plant's recent climate readings, substrate drying behavior, and watering history to produce a daily recommendation with a written reason. Any AI-proposed water volume is hard-limited to a 50–20,000 mL safety range before being shown to the user.
Can I track multiple plants?
Yes. Each plant gets its own profile with its own watering, feeding, climate, light, and growth history.
Can GrowScope record PPFD and DLI?
Yes. PPFD is measured with a compatible external meter and entered manually; DLI is then calculated automatically from the PPFD reading and photoperiod — there is no camera-based PPFD estimate and no manual DLI entry field.
Does GrowScope have AI photo analysis?
Yes — AI Plant Analysis (health/development/canopy scoring), Trichome Tracker (harvest-window estimate), and Pest Scouting (screens for spider mites, thrips, and powdery mildew) are three separate AI-vision flows, each explicitly described as a screening tool, not a diagnosis.
Is there a nutrition/feeding calendar?
Yes, with EC/pH tracking and a fertilizer cabinet; any AI-influenced dose is clamped to the fertilizer's own manufacturer range by a deterministic safety layer (Dose Guard) before it's shown.
Can I track plant growth over time?
Yes — weekly height and canopy-width measurements, plus a separate AI tool (Growth Dynamics) that compares two photos to judge whether growth accelerated, held steady, or slowed.
Is there a cycle/harvest history?
Yes — completed cycles are archived, and Grow Coach produces an AI weekly/cycle report that can optionally be sent to Telegram.
Does GrowScope have a separate drying/curing journal after harvest?
Yes — a harvest batch moves through drying and curing phases, each with a configurable target day count. Either phase can be finished ahead of the target with one tap instead of waiting for the timer, and curing gets daily jar-burping reminders. A harvest report questionnaire opens once curing finishes.
Does GrowScope support outdoor/balcony growing?
Yes, as a separate place type — balcony/terrace — with its own model (it doesn't reuse the indoor grow-box's parameters): a real weather forecast for that specific place, sunlight and temperature calculations calibrated from its own readings, and a manual-latitude fallback for when the automatic estimate from sunrise/sunset can't resolve it.
Can I test a setup before buying equipment?
Yes — Setup Test runs a fast-forward test cycle, a few minutes long, against the equipment you're considering and shows where it would fall short before you buy it.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Every photo, reading, and log entry can be exported or permanently erased at any time.
Does GrowScope work as a PWA?
Yes. GrowScope is a web application installable as a PWA — no app-store download is required.
Does GrowScope encrypt my data?
Yes. As of September 2026, every account's grow diary is encrypted end-to-end and by default, client-side, before it ever reaches the server.
Does GrowScope use E2EE?
Yes — mandatory end-to-end encryption for every account's diary content, using a recovery-phrase-derived key hierarchy documented in full on the encryption page.
What is Zero-Knowledge in GrowScope?
GrowScope's storage and sync layer never holds a key capable of reading the user's diary — only the user's own device and recovery phrase can. The one disclosed exception is that an explicit, user-triggered AI action decrypts only the specific data it needs and sends it once to a third-party model provider to generate that response.
Is GrowScope's AI on-device?
No. GrowScope's AI features run server-side via third-party model providers (Anthropic Claude, or via OpenRouter, Google Gemini), triggered only by an explicit user action. A fully on-device model was evaluated and rejected as too weak for these tasks.
Is GrowScope for cannabis?
GrowScope is an indoor/grow-tent plant-growing and monitoring app; cannabis cultivation is one supported use case among others (any plant grown indoors with tracked watering, feeding, climate, and light), not the only one. Its watering, PPFD/climate, and AI photo-analysis features apply the same way regardless of what is being grown.
